ARTIST STATEMENT: DIANE ROBERTSON As a child, i bought my first camera, a Kodak “Baby Brownie” for $3.00. In my early teens I bought a Kodak flash camera with my baby sitting money. Photography became my biggest interest, and in my sixties, I signed up for photo trips to places I had only seen in pictures. These trips were wonderful as I didn’t have to do any of the planning. I also joined a camera club and benefitted from the help of the members with greater skills than I had. After my husband and I moved to Wellfleet on Cape Cod, I signed up for watercolor classes at the Cape Cod Art Center in Barnstable. During the next few years, I had two wonderful watercolor teachers who were very different in style. I then began to paint from my own photographs, using a plastic grid overlay so I could mapout where my subjects went on the watercolor painting. Things became easier as time passed and my choice of subject varied. Many happy memories filled my day. Photography and painting have been equally satisfying hobbies over the years, as the subjects brought back very happy memories of people I met and the places we visited. May others find the joy that I found in my artistic endeavors.
