► Transportation Policy

VAN USE:

  • Medical appointments are a priority. (Please note that our drivers are not allowed to attend medical appointments with clients, provisions for this are the responsibility of the client, family, or caregiver.)

  • Orleans grocery shopping on Friday’s.

  • We are not able to provide transportation for anyone who is in a long- term care facility.

  • We MAY be able to provide transportation for day surgeries on a case-by-case basis.


ELIGIBILITY:

  • Wellfleet year-round residents & taxpayers 60 years of age and older.

  • Handicapped accessible van is available.

  • The ACC reserves the right to request that a personal caregiver accompany an individual.

  • Donations are gratefully accepted; envelopes are available from the driver. Please make checks out to: Town of Wellfleet.


SCHEDULING:

  • Schedule your appointments Monday through Friday, no earlier than 8:30 AM and to be completed no later than 3:00 PM. There is no weekend or holiday transportation.

  • The van does not go off Cape Cod (over the bridge).

  • If Nauset schools are closed due to inclement weather, the Wellfleet ACC transportation will be at the discretion of the Center staff.

  • Conflicting requests will be prioritized as listed under Van Use above. The Director of Community Services or her designee will make the final determination of the appropriate use of the van.

  • Friday shopping trips to Orleans require a reservation no later than 4:00 PM on the preceding Wednesday.

  • Please call the ACC at 508-349-0313 promptly to cancel a reservation.

  • A minimum of two business days (48 hours) is needed for all ride requests. The following information must be available when calling for a transportation reservation: name of rider; phone and address, physician’s name, phone and address or the address of an appointment if other than medical; date/ time of the appointment and approximate length of the appointment. Please note that the starting pick up point and return destination must be within the town of Wellfleet.

VAN ETIQUETTE:

  • Please be ready when the van arrives to pick you up. Pick up times may vary due to traffic or multiple riders.

  • Use appropriate behavior and common courtesy when interacting with other passengers and drivers.

  • Remember to bring your handicap placard if you have one.

  • THERE ARE NO UNSCHEDULED STOPS!

  • The driver is not responsible for assisting with personal care.

  • All seniors traveling on the ACC van should be independent while  shopping and at appointments.

  • The ACC van will not transport to the hospital for emergencies or for admitting for planned surgeries and will not transport home after discharge.

  • To fully utilize the van there may be several riders with different appointment times. Please be prepared for a waiting period.

  • You may bring a small snack. Please respect ACC property and take any trash back home with you.

  • Everyone riding in the van will always wear a seatbelt.

  • Access to and from your home should be free of obstacles and cleared during bad weather for everyone's safety.

  • No smoking.

  • No animals.

*Please note that rides are not guaranteed and may be cancelled due to bad weather, driver unavailability or unsafe walkways into the home. The ACC reserves the right to cancel.
